Road crashes are associated with expansion in road network, motorization and urbanization in the country. Road traffic injuries are recognized, globally, as a major public health problem, for being one of the leading causes of deaths, disabilities and hospitalization, imposing huge socio-economic costs. In case of India, road injuries are one of the top four leading causes of death and health loss among persons of age group 15-49 years.
One of the most important part of Global Decade of Action for Road Safety is “Education” which is at very low grade in LMICs especially in India. India does not possess dedicated educational institutions which are dealt with quality level scientific road safety education programs for different types of stakeholders including engineers, enforcement officials, road users etc.
Thus, the major objective of establishing “Asian Road Safety Academy” is to develop a scientific road safety education culture among various road safety stakeholders by providing different types of training courses and educational awareness programs for all types of stakeholders involved in the road safety field in India.
